Artist's Description

Kingfisher Point Natural Area is located on the west side of Fort Collins. Part of Kingfisher Point was once a farm and was a dumping ground for sugar beet waste. The resulting lime, while not a hazardous material, is more hospitable to the invasive weed, kochia, than to native plants. If you explore this area you discover birds such as great horned owls (they occasionally nest here), kingfishers, wood ducks, pelicans and western tanagers. On a warm summer evening, you might hear chorus frogs.
